• About Internships

TIMING:
We will be looking for two garden interns in 2013; one during the spring and one during the summer. We are flexible in the timing of the internship; we will be looking for a commitment of 6 to 10 weeks between March–May, and again June–September.

COMPENSATION / ARRANGEMENTS / EXPECTATIONS:
Our internships are NOT paid positions. We will provide the intern with “room and board” for the duration of the internship in exchange for 24 hours of work per week. Together we will determine a mutually beneficial schedule.

Our offer of “room and board” consists of a private guest room in our home and access to food in the house. Although we may all dine together at times, we (TRG hosts) will not be routinely preparing meals for the intern—the intern will need to be somewhat self-reliant in terms of food-preparation. Alcohol is not included in the “room and board” arrangement.

We expect the intern to arrive with adequate clothing (including appropriate shoes/boots) for the work to be performed. We can provide work gloves, safety glasses, and ear protection as needed. Work performed may include heavy shoveling, digging and wheel barrowing. We will be reasonable in breaking up this work so as not to cause undue strain, but some amount of “heavy duty work” should be expected.

A big part of our mission at Trybal Revival Gardens is education, and we want to make the internship a positive and rewarding experience in return for the work performed. There is enough work to be done here that we will be able to provide opportunities to work on a variety of projects and should be able to tailor a portion of the work to areas the intern is specifically interested in, but we can't guarantee all of the work/tasks will be rewarding/inspiring/educational.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must be 18 years of age or older. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in permaculture and some knowledge or experience in one or more of the following areas: permaculture design, organic vegetable gardening, organic orchard management, carpentry, urban renewal, community development. Applicant should be self-motivated and able to work independently.

APPLICATION PROCESS:
Applicants will submit a completed application form (download at top of this page). We will contact qualified applicants to make an appointment to meet on-site, at which time the applicant will provide us with two forms of identification, one of which will be a photo ID. We will then check the applicant’s references and perform a background and criminal check. (Because the intern will live with the TRG hosts for an extended period of time, we feel it is important to meet face-to-face to get a sense for each other. The only exception to our requirement of meeting in person would be a personal recommendation from someone we know).

After evaluating all of the applicants, we will make a determination and contact all applicants to either offer an internship or let them know they have not been selected.

Upon arrival at Trybal Revival Gardens, the intern will be required to sign a release of liability which will hold harmless Trybal Revival Gardens and it’s owners of any liability resulting from injury while staying with us regardless of the nature or circumstances of the injury.

We reserve the right to terminate the Internship arrangement at any time prior to or during the internship.

• About WWOOFing

TIMING:
Once we have determined the timing of our Internship(s) we will have a better idea of our needs and availability for WWOOFers. We generally schedule WWOOFers for one to two weeks.

COMPENSATION / ARRANGEMENTS / EXPECTATIONS:
We follow the recommended WWOOF guidlines of providing “room and board” in exchange for 4 hours of work per day, 6 days per week or the equivalent hours (24) per week. Together we will determine a mutually agreeable schedule within that guideline.

“Room and board” consists of a private guest room in our home and access to food in the house. Alcohol is not included in the “room and board” arrangement.

We expect the WWOOFer to arrive with adequate clothing (including appropriate shoes/boots) for the work to be performed. We can provide work gloves, safety glasses, and ear protection as needed. Work performed may include heavy shoveling, digging and wheel barrowing. We will be reasonable in breaking up this work so as not to cause undue strain, but some amount of “heavy duty work” should be expected.

We will attempt to tailor a portion of the work to areas the WWOOFer is specifically interested in. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee all of the work/tasks are rewarding/inspiring/educational.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must be 18 years of age or older. Knowledge/experience/interest in some of the following areas would be desirable: permaculture design, organic vegetable gardening, organic orchard management, carpentry, urban renewal, and community development.

APPLICATION PROCESS:
Applicants will submit a completed application form (download at top of this page). We will check the applicant’s references and perform a background and criminal check. We will then contact the applicant by phone to discuss details of the arrangement.

Upon arrival at Trybal Revival Gardens, the WWOOFer will provide us with two forms of identification, one of which will be a photo ID, and sign a release of liability which will hold harmless Trybal Revival Gardens and it’s owners of any liability resulting from injury while staying with us regardless of the nature or circumstances of the injury.

We reserve the right to terminate the arrangement at any time prior to or during the WWOOFer’s stay.
